and political aspects. This work points out various professional principles and evaluation

criteria regarding the selection and collection of archive materials, aimed at the preservation

of optimum amounts of materials constituting the archival cultural heritage and their gathering

by archives with the observance of an adequate level of subjectivity, and with the use of

professional knowledge and experience. Some examples of political approach to the evaluation

of archive materials are also included — during the last fifty years the political situation

influenced the acquisition of archive materials by archives in many countries, directly interfering

in the independence of the profession and archival services. The above has resulted in

enormous losses in the archival heritage."
